What’s your earliest memory of fashion and when did you become aware of it?
Firstly, my mum is a fashionista and has always been. I also think growing up in Lagos, you’re naturally aware of it because all the women in Lagos look good. When I was younger we always had to dress up for church and the smallest occasions. Even my school uniform was fashionable. So I’ve always been aware of the importance of being put together and presenting yourself in a way that looks good.
What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe right now?
I’ve been dressing very corporate lately, so to spice things up I always reach for my classic Valentino pointed heels with the studs. They just add a bit of fun to any look.
Does your style influence your music or does your music influence your style?
I’d say my style influences my music. My music is very much about looking good, showing up as your best and feeling your best. A lot of my songs are about dressing well and feeling confident, so I’d definitely say my style influences my music.
Which Nigerian Designer do you think the world should be paying attention to right now?
To be honest, I think the world is already paying attention. But I love Lisa Folawiyo. I love how glamorous the brand is, while still feeling so timeless. Every piece can be worn over and over again. And if my mum wears it, I can wear it. Literally anybody can wear it.
Minimalism or Maximalism?

What do you think Nigerian design is synonymous with?
Colour.
When you get dressed, what do you start with?
Makeup first. Then, clothing-wise, I start with my outfit before I accessorise.
What’s a life changing styling tip of yours?
Dress for yourself. Don’t wear something just because you think it’s trendy if you’re uncomfortable in it. Wear what makes you feel good. Even if what you’re wearing is simple or not as flashy as the next person’s, if you wear it confidently, it’ll always look better than something you don’t feel like yourself in.
How has your style evolved in the last couple of years?
Nowadays I wear whatever I like. I rarely shop anymore because it’s become so overwhelming, as you have to go through so much to find one or two items that you actually like. That’s why I like that what you’re doing with ARENI is selective and curated. These days it’s about working with what I already have rather than buying pieces for the sake of it. So my style now is about understanding what I like and making it work for me. It’s still evolving.
What would be in your dream wardrobe?
An unlimited number of shoes. I’d have every heel imaginable, in every shape and every colour.
